Miss Southwest Michigan Scholarship Pageant Miss Southwest Michigan Outstanding Teen Pageant Deadline date to enter August 15, 2010 The Blossomtime Festival is proud to announce the newest additions to its pageant roster: Miss Southwest Michigan Scholarship Pageant and Miss Southwest Michigan Outstanding Teen Pageant “When the Miss Michigan Organization came to Blossomtime and asked Blossomtime to run an open pageant preliminary for them for this area, we were thrilled and honored to be a part of such a long standing organization” stated Board President Anna Abdelnour. “Miss Southwest Michigan will be open to all young women in the state of Michigan and will follow the Miss America guidelines and will not affect Miss Blossomtime and our local community Queens” Abdelnour stated. Miss Southwest Michigan Scholarship Pageant will also be conducting a Miss Southwest Michigan Outstanding Teen competition for ages 13-17. The Blossomtime Festival has been in the pageant business since 1923 when Katherine Burrell was chosen Miss Blossomtime. The Blossomtime Festival is Michigan’s oldest and largest multi-community festival. The Blossomtime Festival is now accepting applications for the New Miss Southwest Scholarship Pageant which is scheduled for September 11, 2010 at the Dowagiac Performing Arts Center. The deadline to return a completed application is August 15, 2010. The Miss Southwest Michigan Scholarship Pageant is the preliminary to the Miss Michigan Scholarship Pageant, which will be held in Muskegon, Michigan in June 2011. In turn Miss Michigan is the official state preliminary to the Miss America Program. Requirements: Women interested in entering the scholarship program must be: o A U.S. citizen; o At least 17 years old and entering their senior year of high school. o Single, never been married. o Live, work full time, or attend school full time in Michigan. o Be a high school graduate by the time you compete for Miss Michigan. o Be no older than 24 on date of the Miss America Pageant. o Meet character criteria as set forth by the Miss America Organization. o Be able to meet the time commitment and responsibilities as set forth by the Miss Michigan program should you win the title. o Be able to meet the time commitment and responsibilities as set forth by the local program in which you compete.
Judging Criteria: o Contestants will compete in a 90 second talent competition worth 35% of the contestants overall score. o Contestants also compete in Lifestyle and Fitness in Swimsuit is 15% o Evening wear is 20% o On-Stage Question is 5% o Interview Competition is worth 25%. Join us for the 2010 Grand Floral Parade on Saturday, May 1st at 1:00pm. Local streets will be closing at 11:00 so check out the parade route here and secure your front row spot to watch the action! Don't forget, it's not too late to register for the Run for the Buds before the parade. Runners/Walkers can register the morning of the parade at the Whitcomb beginning at 9:30am. Join us Saturday, May 1st at 11:10am for the 2010 Run for the Buds!  Run for the Buds is a chip-timed 5k Walk/Run which runs along the Grand Floral Parade route! The entry fee is $20 for adults ($25 after 5:00 pm on Thursday, April 30th) and $14 for children 14 and under ($20 after 5:00 pm on Thursday, April 30th). All participants will receive a 2010 Run for the Buds Blossomtime T-shirt. Come support your family, friends and neighbors for the 2010 Run for the Buds and join us afterwards for the The Grand Floral Parade at 1:00pm. Congratulations Kyra Heit, Miss Blossomtime 2010! Kyra is the daughter of Chuck and Michelle Heit of New Buffalo. Kyra plans on following her passion and becoming a dental hygienist. On Sunday, March 14th, Michael Semenic, son of Mike and Lisa Semenic of Three Oaks, was crowned Mr. Blossomtime 2010. Michael plans on attending Central Michigan University where he plans on studying Criminal Justice, Psychology, and Sociology and enrolling in ROTC. He hopes to one day be a member of the FBI. His 2010 Court includes: 1st Runner Up: Ruben Hanohano representing New Buffalo, son of Ruben and Michelle Honohano. 2nd Runner Up: Nicholas Beam, son of Thomas and Julie Beam of Lawrence Mr. Nice Guy: Anthony Barney, son of Roosevelt and Yolanda Bell, representing Benton Harbor  The 2010 Blossomtime Community Queens were judged on Photogenic, Modeling, and Communications.  Photogenic winners: Ashley French (Heart of Blossomtime), Raechel Zahrn (Berrien Springs), Brooke Rajewski (Stevensville)
